◾️ Our Research Institute's Researcher Elected as Chair of ITU-R WP5A Working Group

The Research Institute of Advanced Technology at SoftBank is pleased to announce that our researcher, Hitoshi Yoshino, has been elected as the Chair of the Working Group under the International Telecommunication Union's Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R).

The ITU-R is a sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) responsible for establishing regulations and standards for radiocommunication. This includes international agreements and rule revisions concerning the use of frequencies and satellite orbits. The recently elected chair position is within WP5A(※1), which is part of the Study Group 5 (SG5) of ITU-R. WG3 focuses on land mobile radio systems in the transportation sector, specifically examining Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and railway radio systems. The group's discussions aim to develop ITU-R recommendations and reports.

Yoshino has previously served as the chair of WG5 (New Technologies) under WP5A until 2024, where he contributed to the development of international standards for radio communication systems involving ITS communication, terahertz communication, and IoT communication. He has also played a key role in creating ITU-R recommendations and reports on advanced radio technologies such as cognitive radio and adaptive antennas.

As the new chair of WG3, Yoshino will advance the international standardization efforts for terrestrial radio communication systems in the transportation sector, including Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAV).

SoftBank remains committed to contributing to the realization of more advanced and safer transportation systems through our continued standardization activities at ITU-R.

◾️ Awarded a Letter of Appreciation from the ITS Info-communications Forum

At the ITS Info-communications Forum General Meeting held on June 21, 2024, Yoshino was awarded a letter of appreciation.
This recognition was given in honor of his long-term dedication to the international standardization of radio wave utilization and his contributions to the advancement of information communication technology related to ITS.
