SoftBank Corp. to Enhance Communications Performance by Optimizing Radio Base Station Settings with Quantum Computing Technology

SoftBank Corp. conducted a proof-of-concept experiment in Tokyo using an Ising machine*, a type of quantum computing technology, to optimize radio base station settings.
As a result, in 5G communications using carrier aggregation, SoftBank Corp. successfully improved downlink data speed by approximately 10% and increased data transmission capacity by up to 50% compared to conventional settings.

* A dedicated computing system specialized for solving combinatorial optimization problems. It searched for the optimal solution by identifying the states that minimize the system’s energy. Depending on its operating principles, it is classified into classical, quantum, and quantum-inspired types. These machines are expected to be applied across a wide range of fields, including logistics and finance.
