【White Paper Release】On the Limits and Opportunities of Quantum Computers for Industrial Applications

#QuantumTechnology #WhitePaper

Quantum computers hold significant promise for numerical simulations whose computational cost grows explosively on classical computers. At the same time, for industrial applications, the stringent resource requirements imposed by fault-tolerant quantum computers (FTQCs) represent a major practical constraint.

This white paper examines quantum chemistry calculations and computer-aided engineering (CAE) as representative industrial use cases, and quantitatively evaluates the resources required to execute such workloads on FTQCs, including the number of logical qubits, logical gate counts, required logical error rates, and execution time. The analysis reveals that the nature of the required resources differs substantially between these two domains, and that while many practical numerical simulations presuppose the availability of FTQCs, the integration of quantum computing with HPC and AI in the NISQ to early-FTQC era can also be positioned as a subject for future consideration.

By clarifying both the “limitations” and the “potential” of quantum computing, this white paper presents a realistic technological pathway and a framework for evaluation toward industrial deployment.
