How Can Companies Build Resilience by Incorporating Sustainability into Their Operations?

Formulated in 2015 by the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 objectives to be achieved by 2030. With the world now at the halfway point before the 2030 deadline, many considerable challenges remain, including higher levels of geopolitical uncertainty.

How are CEOs around the world working to achieve the SDGs and make their operations sustainable while building resiliency? The UN Global Compact-Accenture CEO Study set out to answer these and other related questions in their 12th edition published in January 2023. 2,600 CEOs across 128 countries and 18 industries were interviewed, including SoftBank Corp.’s (TOKYO: 9434) President & CEO, Junichi Miyakawa.

In the report, Miyakawa talked about building a resilient workforce. “To ensure our workforce is prepared for the fourth industrial revolution, we are investing directly in educating young people to be AI-capable–it is up to companies to act and fill that gap,” he said. He also pointed out that supply chain constraints are making it more difficult to address female empowerment, global talent attraction and business diversification.
