Looking for a way to bring photos and videos on your smartphone to life, but are hesitant to use 3D glasses or VR goggles? Starting September 6, 2024, SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) will offer a new service in Japan to meet this need. Called “TOBIDERU” (which means ‘leap out’ in Japanese), the service will enable customers to enjoy 3D visuals by using a special smartphone screen protector and the TOBIDERU app.
When the glass-tempered screen protector is attached to the smartphone screen, and smartphone photos and videos are viewed through the TOBIDERU app, a customer can see 3D visuals with the naked eye. The service is great for reliving memories with added depth and dimension.
The TOBIDERU app, which uses AI to automatically convert photos and videos into 3D, is available for free, and the TOBIDERU smartphone screen protector will retail for 7,200 yen at most ‘SoftBank’ stores nationwide and at the ‘Trend Tech SoftBank SELECTION’ online store.
Compatible models at the time of launch are the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15, and availability for Android smartphones is planned in the future.
