As vehicles increasingly become digital platforms, reliable, seamless connectivity will be crucial for them to remain connected to the Internet, even in areas that ground-based cellular networks can't reach. This will ensure that over-the-air (OTA) software updates and critical features like predictive maintenance, safety features, telematics and navigation function correctly.
To enable these seamless communication services, SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) and Cubic³ – a SoftBank Corp. group company and a global leader in software-defined vehicle (SDV) solutions – recently unveiled a strategic partnership to create a ‘Ubiquitous Network’ for SDVs.
A ‘Ubiquitous Network’ integrates satellite-based non-terrestrial networks (NTN) with terrestrial networks (TN) to provide communications everywhere. SoftBank and Cubic³ are aiming to deploy a ‘Ubiquitous Network’ for connected vehicles within the next few years.
