SoftBank Corp. Providing 5G Connectivity on Mt. Fuji Summit for Summer Climbing Season

With its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mt. Fuji is one of Japan’s top attractions. Climbing to the top of Japan’s most iconic mountain, however, is no easy feat.

To make the journey more comfortable, every year SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) takes measures to enhance communication services for climbers on Mt. Fuji, including setting up base stations at the summit during the summer climbing season, which runs from early July to late August. In 2025, SoftBank is installing “SoftBank 5G” and “SoftBank 4G LTE” communication equipment at the top of Mt. Fuji, which covers the summit and mountain huts, to provide fast and reliable communication services to customers*.

By improving connectivity on Mt. Fuji, SoftBank aims to give climbers more peace of mind during their ascent and help them share the joy and excitement of reaching the summit.

At the base of Mt. Fuji, SoftBank provides 4G LTE services at the four trailheads– Fujinomiya Trail, Subashiri Trail, Gotemba Trail and Yoshida Trail–year-round.

For the latest information on climbing, visitors are encouraged to check the Official Web Site for Mt. Fuji Climbing.

As this is a best-effort service, communication speed may decrease, or become unavailable, depending on network congestion or communication environment conditions.
