Technologies to Watch for at MWC26

MWC Barcelona 2026 (MWC26), one of the world's largest mobile-related exhibitions, is bringing together the latest technologies, products and services in the communications industry.

The event, which takes place from Monday, March 2 to 5 at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain, will host participants from network operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, content creators and others from around the world. This year’s theme is “The IQ Era,” bringing together innovative technologies from around the globe that will form the future of societal infrastructure. Alongside the latest mobile devices, attendees will see next-generation solutions merging AI and communications, satellite communications, and more.

Take this opportunity to explore some of the latest technologies being developed by SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) and its group companies and partners that will feature at MWC26.

  • AI-RAN

Ryuji Wakikawa, Vice President and Head of SoftBank’s Research Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT), and Alex Jinsung Choi, a Principal Fellow at RIAT and Chairman of the AI-RAN Alliance, a global initiative driving the integration of AI with radio access networks, will be speaking at the following sessions.

At MWC 2026, the AI-RAN Alliance will also present 33 AI-driven innovation demonstrations and unveil four new industry blueprints.

  • Advanced satellite voice calls for connected vehicles
Advanced satellite voice calls for connected vehicles

Cubic³, a SoftBank Corp. group company that delivers advanced software-defined vehicle (SDV) solutions, will be attending MWC26. Viasat and Cubic³, in association with Qualcomm Technologies, will demonstrate live, satellite-enabled voice calls for connected vehicles, delivered over a non-terrestrial network (NTN). Live demonstrations will take place at Viasat’s booth.

  • Open Connectivity eXchange (OCX) and OCX Mobile Access

BBSakura Networks, Inc., a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp. group company BBIX, Inc., will exhibit at the MWC26 Japan Pavilion. BBSakura will showcase its cloud-based network services “Open Connectivity eXchange” (“OCX”) and “OCX Mobile Access,” provided in collaboration with BBIX.

At the Japan Pavilion, BBSakura will demonstrate how to build mobile communication environments and private networks with just a few clicks through the OCX portal site. Additionally, monitors set up within the booth will show the actual operation process and steps to establish connectivity.
