On October 23, the Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS won the “SMBC NIPPON SERIES 2019,” the championship of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB)’s 2019 season. The victory marked the third straight title for the HAWKS in Japan’s highest level of baseball.
The win also brought the HAWKS a total of ten Japan Series Championships (won in 1959, 1964, 1999, 2003, 2011, 2014-2015 and 2017-2019). HAWKS Owner Masayoshi Son was on hand to cheer for the club, and as is customary with baseball victories in Japan, he and HAWKS Manager Kimiyasu Kudo were tossed into the air by players in celebration.
Founded in 1938 and acquired by SoftBank in 2005, the HAWKS are a professional baseball club that plays in the Pacific League of the NPB. The Fukuoka YAHUOKU! DOME in Fukuoka City is the home ground for the HAWKS.
