SoftBank Wins Two CEATEC AWARD 2021 Category Awards for its Non-Terrestrial Network Solutions and Smart City Platform

SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) won two CEATEC AWARD 2021 Category Awards on October 18, 2021, the day before the full launch of CEATEC ONLINE 2021. CEATEC is one of the largest international exhibitions of IT technology and electronics in Asia, and SoftBank was a winner in the Solutions Category and the Super City/Smart City Category.

From the exhibits on display during the exhibition, the CEATEC AWARD 2021 panel of judges selected outstanding technologies, products and services from academic and technological perspectives while also taking marketability and business potential into consideration.

SoftBank Wins Two CEATEC AWARD 2021 Category Awards for its Non-Terrestrial Network Solutions and Smart City Platform

In recognition of its innovative efforts to create new value that supports the growth of industries, SoftBank won the Grand Prix in the Solutions Category for its Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) solutions and the Semi Grand Prix in the Super City/Smart City Category for its Smart City platform.

    • Solutions Category Grand Prix Award: NTN Solutions Providing Connectivity from Space and the Stratosphere

SoftBank's NTN solutions concept encompasses Geosynchronous Earth Orbiting (GEO) satellite NarrowBand IoT (NB-IoT) services, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications and High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS)-based stratospheric telecommunication platforms. CEATEC AWARD judges recognized the merits of this planned commercial offering, particularly the range of services that meet the diverse needs of various industries.

    • Super City/Smart City Category Semi Grand Prix Award: SoftBank’s Smart City Platform

SoftBank’s Smart City Platform, which is currently being operated as a trial project at SoftBank headquarters, utilizes AI and IoT with more than 1,400 sensors to help visitors and employees make behavioral decisions, such as avoiding congestion. For building managers and tenants, the system provides useful information, such as visitor numbers, and thus holds promise for increasing efficiencies when deploying staff and directing flows of people. The CEATEC Award judges praised the platform for its future potential as there are plans to expand it to surrounding facilities and entire towns.
