SoftBank Corp. Joins Partnership with CelcomDigi to Accelerate Digitalization of Malaysia Enterprises

SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) is actively pursuing business opportunities globally in line with its “Beyond Japan” strategic growth initiative, with its investment in and strategic partnership with global connected vehicle leader Cubic Telecom being one recent example.

Leveraging its expertise in Japan, SoftBank is now working to accelerate digitalization in Malaysia. On January 15, 2024, CelcomDigi, Malaysia’s largest mobile network operator with more than 20.6 million subscribers, announced a strategic partnership with SoftBank and SC-NEX, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation Japan. Under the partnership, SoftBank and SC-NEX will work to help Malaysian enterprises adopt Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) solutions, including ones for agritech and smart cities.

SoftBank Vice President and Head of its Global Business Division, Kimimasa Kudo, attended the signing ceremony held in Putrajaya, south of Kuala Lumpur. He noted that in Japan SoftBank has developed leading smart building solutions that utilize cutting-edge building entry and robotics solutions, and that he looks forward to utilizing this know-how with partners in the agreement, as well as contributing to the sustainable growth of industry in Malaysia

CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi said the partnership will open many possibilities for Malaysian enterprises to gain faster access to transformative technologies and help them unlock the true potential of their businesses.
