A program that can execute tasks and learn on its own using AI and data

An AI agent is a program designed to autonomously plan and execute tasks to achieve goals defined by a user. By utilizing AI technologies such as natural language processing, machine learning, and generative AI, AI agents can process large volumes of information, converse naturally via text or voice, and even create new content. Since they perform complex tasks on behalf of users, they are referred to as “agents.”

AI agents can be used for a broad range of potential applications, from business operations to daily life tasks. In a business context, they are called “enterprise agents.” They can help businesses improve efficiency, decision-making and customer support by automating routine tasks and workflows and analyzing large volumes of data. In the private sphere, “personal agents” are expected to help with scheduling, information searches, and other tasks related to daily life.

SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) is actively promoting initiatives to advance the social implementation of AI, including the development and utilization of AI agents. To assist enterprises with customer support, its subsidiary Gen-AX Corp. is working to develop a text-based generative AI assistant model, called a "query response support product," and later aims to offer an "autonomous voice response product" that leverages AI-powered voice generation. In August 2024, SoftBank launched a beta version of an AI agent service called “satto,” which is designed to help freelancers, office workers, students and others to make more effective use of generative AI so they can execute tasks with ease.
