On November 15, 2024, the Ireland Chamber of Commerce (IJCC) held its annual Japan Business Awards event at the Conrad Tokyo. At the celebration, which was attended by approximately 130 members and guests, awards in different categories, including Company of the Year, Exporter of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year, were given out to recognize special business achievements.
SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) received the IJCC’s prestigious Company of the Year Award for its partnership with Cubic Telecom, a Dublin-headquartered global provider of solutions for software-defined vehicles and other high-value mobile assets. Cubic Telecom joined SoftBank’s group of companies on March 6, 2024, and the IJCC recognized SoftBank’s substantial investment and collaboration with Cubic Telecom as a major contribution to commerce between Ireland and Japan.
Achievement reflects dedication of both companies and growing Ireland-Japan ties
Takuo Obayashi, Director of SoftBank’s Cubic Telecom Integration Office, accepted the award on SoftBank’s behalf from Damien Cole, Ambassador of Ireland to Japan, and Yoshihiro Tsuchiya, President of IJCC.
“This recognition is a testament to the strong partnership between Ireland and Japan,” Obayashi said from the podium. “Our collaboration with Cubic has been remarkable so far. We have become strategic partners and this partnership has been very fruitful. Together, we aim to accelerate the provision of automotive connectivity and platforms globally. We also seek to create further synergies.”
Barry Napier, CEO of Cubic Telecom, also expressed his gratitude for the award through a special video message that was shown at the event.
Our partnership with SoftBank marked the largest software deal ever in Ireland—an achievement that reflects not only the dedication of our team but also the growing ties between Ireland and Japan,” he said. “With over 21 million cars connected around the world, having this relationship with SoftBank and a gateway into the Asia market is key for us.”
