The rapid spread of generative AI has spurred the widespread adoption of large language models (LLMs) across various industries. The datasets used by these general-purpose LLMs remain broad and non-specialized, however. This means they are not as effective in domains that require highly specialized expertise, such as telecommunications network operations.
Addressing this challenge, SoftBank Corp.’s (TOKYO: 9434) Research Institute of Advanced Technology developed a Large Telecom Model with the aim of integrating generative AI together with telecommunications domain-specific knowledge and real-world operational know-how.
SoftBank’s Large Telecom Model builds upon general-purpose LLMs by training them on its vast operational data, telecommunications expertise, standardization documents, and simulation results—making it a generative AI model optimized specifically for the telecommunications sector.
What are the defining features of SoftBank’s Large Telecom Model and what are potential use cases? Learn more in this deep dive.
