A new style of building management, powered by data and AI
“Autonomous Building” refers to a “self-governing building” and is central to SoftBank Corp.’s (TOKYO: 9434) concept for the next generation of smart buildings.
By utilizing AI, IoT, and a data integration platform (Building OS), an autonomous building enables the centralized management and coordination of various types of data related to building operations, such as cleaning, security, elevator operation, lighting and temperature control. This makes it possible to optimize—in real time and in a comprehensive manner—many areas of building management, including equipment operation and energy usage. Furthermore, by linking with external applications, the building can operate autonomously and continuously evolve through functional expansion.
Together with partner companies, SoftBank is aiming to diversify and improve the accuracy of data collected, expand the scope of robot and AI utilization, and optimize management operations, not only for individual buildings but also across multiple interconnected buildings. In addition to providing a comfortable and convenient environment for building occupants, SoftBank is working to address social issues such as labor shortages caused by a declining birthrate and an aging population, rising operational costs, and the transition to a decarbonized society.
