SOFTBANK TELECOM Establishes a New Company Offering Health Management Service

SOFTBANK TELECOM Corp. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Masayoshi Son, hereinafter "SBTM") announced that SBTM and Sompo Japan Himawari Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Katsujiro Tanaka, hereinafter "Sompo Japan Himawari Life Insurance") establish jointly "SOFTBANK LIBRA Corp." The new company will provide a health management service integrating IT and healthcare.

1. Purpose of establishment of the new company

Interest in health is increasing these days, and growing attention is drawn particularly to prevention of lifestyle-related diseases which account for the majority among the diseases that the Japanese suffer from. SBTM has focused on metabolic syndrome countermeasures and has decided to start providing a service that enables individuals to easily check and maintain their health. As part of the Lifestyle Company, which is SOFTBANK's concept, SBTM will establish a new business model that is a fusion of healthcare and IT, using mobile phone terminals together with accumulated solution know-how and telecom technology, and will expand its business into the healthcare field.

  • *Sompo Japan Himawari Life Insurance considers the provision of wide support for a "healthy and qualityrich life", to be one of its missions as a life insurance company, it agrees to enter this business, invests in it and plans to study how to use it to serve customers.

3. Description of the service (planned)

By using PCs and mobile phones, customers will be able to check daily data relating to their health on charts via the Internet, and manage metabolic syndrome countermeasures and diet. The service is called "Life Carrier". It is scheduled to be available for mobile phones of SOFTBANK MOBILE, NTT DoCoMo and KDDI (au). In addition, a call center will be set up as a supplemental service with a number of specialized physicians and certified personnel (health nurses, national registered dietitians and etc.) to provide health counseling over the phone and by e-mail 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. An exclusive website will also be started to support the daily lifestyle of customers through the provision of content, not only concerning lifestyle-related diseases but also about mental health, hobbies and leisure.
