Press Releases 2025
SoftBank Corp. to Discontinue "OTOKU Line"
Fixed-line Telephone Service
October 30, 2025
SoftBank Corp.
SoftBank Corp. ("SoftBank") today announced that after March 31, 2030, its "OTOKU Line" fixed-line telephone service will be discontinued. Ahead of the service discontinuation, after March 31, 2026, SoftBank will no longer accept new applications.
SoftBank began providing OTOKU Line in 2004 as a fixed-line telephone service that utilizes the dry copper wires and dark fibers of NTT EAST, Inc. and NTT WEST, Inc., and the service has since been used by many customers. However, fixed-line telephones have seen a shift from analog and ISDN services using metal lines to IP phones and "Hikari" phones that use fiber-optic lines. Services that utilize wireless networks have become commonplace, and looking ahead, IP phones and cloud-based telephone services are expected to become the norm. Taking this market environment into consideration, SoftBank decided to discontinue its OTOKU Line service.
SoftBank will continue to work to provide more reliable communication services of even higher quality while striving to further enhance customer satisfaction.
