SoftBank Corp.

SoftBank Corp. ("SoftBank") announced it successfully provided limited services that utilize "Segment Routing IPv6 Mobile User Plane" ("SRv6 MUP") via Fixed Wireless Access on its 5G commercial network. SRv6 MUP is an affordable and easy-to-set-up technology that takes advantage of 5G*1 features that enable services such as Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) and network slicing.

SoftBank has been leading the development of SRv6 MUP, which makes it possible to take advantage of 5G features that enable services such as MEC and network slicing at a lower cost and in a way that easier to set up compared to traditional mobile networks. After conducting field trials in February 2023 and conducting various verifications, SoftBank has been developing technology to provide SRv6 MUP on its 5G commercial network. SoftBank succeeded in providing services on a 5G commercial network utilizing SRv6 MUP for the first time in the world*2 in December 2025. SoftBank plans to expand service areas sequentially, making use of the knowledge gained from this commercial service provision.

SoftBank aims to provide low-latency services made possible by SRv6 MUP to more customers and will continue to develop and verify various commercial service offerings. Furthermore, by collaborating with various technology companies and telecommunications carriers in different countries and regions so they can utilize SRv6 MUP, SoftBank aims to efficiently realize MEC and network slicing.
