February 3, 2006SOFTBANK BB Corp. (head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Masayoshi Son; hereafter called "the Company") is pleased to announce that the company will introduce "BladeEXchange," an installation support service of blade type servers to its sales partners beginning in February 2006. This service will be provided in response to the variety of needs that have emerged with the growth of the blade type server market.
With the rapid expansion of IT demand in recent years, the number of installed servers has dramatically increased. Alongside this trend, the need for servers with higher density than the rack mount type servers has been increasing. The blade type servers have been provided to meet this kind of demand. Currently, the blade type servers are attracting great attention as the solution for TCO reduction, for their excellence in overall capabilities for administration as well as their nature of space reduction. The product has already begun to expand from certain special applications to more general use as a replacement for rack mount type servers. In advance of the wider spread of the servers in the near future, the Company is to provide its blade type server installation support service, "BladeEXchange", to its sales partners to enable them to offer business solutions to their customers aggressively.
"BladeEXchange" provides mainly support the procedure from solution proposal to installation. The focus of the service will be the "Setup Service," which assists the reduction of man-hours required at server installation, and the "Verification Equipment Rental Service," which enables the verification within sales partner premises, and others. These services are the first in the industry as the service focused exclusively on sales partners. In addition, the cooperation of SOFTBANK IDC Corp. (head office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; president: Yutaka Shinto, hereafter "SOFTBANK IDC") will be available for the assistance in the effective installation of blade type servers, and offering mediation for use of SOFTBANK IDC's data center as a facility suited for blade type servers installation.
Assistance and solutions services under BladeEXchange are as follows:
- (1) Access to information in SOFTBANK BB's BtoB Web site, IT-EXchange
- (2) Seminars, workshops at sales partner offices
- (3) Rental of verification equipment
- (4) Blade type servers configuration proposals based on required specifications
- (5) Setup environment with 200 V power source
- (6) Setup service for kitting, operating system installation, management tool setup, etc.
- (7) Recommendation of iDC (data center) suited to blade type servers operation
- (8) Facility consulting service
The business operation and services mentioned above will be made available in phases through the Company's sales partners.
With BladeEXchange, an installation support service of blade type servers, the Company will facilitate sales partners providing blade type servers solutions -from proposal to installation- and helping to realize TCO reduction for their customers. This service will also accelate a wider use of the blade type servers, that are expected to become the mainstream of the server market in the future.
