TOKYO, February, 16, 2022 — Baron App, Inc. (doing business as Cameo, hereafter “Cameo”), the US-based leading marketplace connecting the world's talent directly with their biggest fans, and SoftBank Corp. (hereafter “SoftBank”) today announced the launch of a partnership to expand Cameo's global footprint to Japan where the creator economy, a community of independent content creators (artists, influencers, etc.) is rapidly growing. With this partnership, Cameo will launch its service that enables fans to receive personalized video greetings from their favorite celebrities in Japan in the coming months. SoftBank Vision Fund 2 is an investor in Cameo, and SoftBank will support operations for the company locally.

Cameo's service allows consumers to book personalized video greetings from their favorite celebrities—ranging from birthday and good luck messages to wedding wishes and pep talks—so they can receive them directly on their smartphones. It gives fans direct access to approximately 50,000 participating pop culture personalities (as of February 2022) including actors, musicians, athletes and influencers, and has fulfilled nearly 4 million magical moments in just over five years. In 2021 alone, Cameo's service fulfilled nearly 1.4 million magical moments. In response to a growing usage in Japan, Cameo is providing its service in Japanese.

SoftBank will collaborate with Japan-based talent agencies and sports teams to bring participating celebrities to Cameo's service, as well as help promote the service among users in Japan through marketing activities. SoftBank is now in discussions with HoriPro Inc. and other talent agencies regarding the participation of talent in their rosters.

“In 2021, we've seen substantial demand globally, with more than 10,000 talent added to Cameo and Cameos delivered to 183 countries,” said Steven Galanis, Cofounder and CEO of Cameo. “Japan is a market we've already seen promising organic customer growth in, and this partnership with SoftBank will accelerate our growth in-market and pave the way for expansion into the rest of Asia.”

Cameo's expansion into Japan marks continued international growth for the company, which has already invested in its presence in, among other locations, the U.K., Australia, France, Mexico and Spain.
