IoT
The Internet of Things (IoT) will make it possible to measure and quantify information not previously obtainable in various areas, from connections between people and devices to connections among devices, allowing the exchange of vast amounts of data communications to bring about a major transformation for a new age of information processing.
Together with progressive research into security technologies to counter cyber attacks, such as IoT sensors equipped with high-performance chips and Non-IP Data Delivery (NIDD) using Narrow Band-IoT (NB-IoT), we are gathering new data for analysis with the IoT to serve in solving social issues and creating value.
AI
We are working jointly with the University of Tokyo on initiatives to apply various AI technologies based on machine learning to actual businesses, and on technology development to achieve breakthroughs in AI capabilities to overcome the current issues shared by AI such as the accuracy and speed involved and the cost of preparing teaching data, and also on research into next-generation AI with flexible human-like universal problem-solving capabilities through integration with neuroscience.
To gather diverse data with sufficiently high accuracy required for using AI, we prepare high-quality teaching data and take steps to ensure data can be safely used while protecting privacy.
Through these activities, our aim is to not only provide AI solutions to support our business and shared platforms for these, but also to contribute to companies and society by realizing better AI.
Mobility
The practical implementation of automated driving is expected not only to make our lives even more convenient, but also to solve various social issues involving mobility.
To expand the mobility society, SoftBank is engaged in verification testing to support automated driving using 5G ultra-low delay communications, as well as various verification testing and commercialization efforts through developing automated driving technologies via our subsidiary BOLDLY Co. and developing mobility platforms and providing services for MaaS (Mobility as a Service) with MONET Technologies Inc., another subsidiary.
